Lyft Unveils Autocare Haven as Winner of its August Community Grant

Dallas, TX – Aug. 23, 2018 – The Lyft Community Grants program makes Lyft more than just a convenient way to get around town, head to a favorite restaurant or get to a concert quickly. The rideshare company awards free rides to a Dallas area nonprofit each month via $1,000 in ride credit — and announced today the winner of August’s grant, Autocare Haven.

Autocare Haven is a local Dallas nonprofit that raises funds to help the underserved communities of north Texas with car repairs. The grant awards the nonprofit free rides for a month via $1,000 in ride credit, so those in need can run errands, go to work, and carry out other daily tasks while their car is in the shop.

“Autocare Haven does outstanding work in the Dallas-Fort Worth area to help fund car repairs for underserved communities,” says Lyft Dallas-Fort Worth Market Manager Yohan Bobcombe. “Autocare Haven provides quality service north Texans can trust while also giving back to the community, and we look forward to providing a grant that further propels the program’s mission in the community.”

“We are excited and humbled for being chosen by Lyft to receive this grant,” said Manuel Valles Tellez, Chairperson of Autocare Haven. “With this grant, we are better positioned to help hard-working folks whose vehicles are being repaired by our approved mechanics by ensuring in the meantime they are able to travel to work, the grocery store, pick up the kids, and more.”

Starting in Jan. 2018, Lyft’s Community Grants program supports 501(c)3 nonprofits doing incredible work around the nation to make communities stronger, healthier and more equitable. Each month, one nonprofit in each participating region will receive a $1,000 grant in the form of a Lyft ride credit to enhance regular or one-off programs. The program serves 20 different cities each month, including the Dallas-Fort Worth area. In DFW, the grant has previously awarded Café Momentum, which works to help at-risk youth who have previously been in juvenile justice system to learn life skills and get culinary training in a positive environment, and Per Scholas, which provides free IT education to gain CompTIA A+ certification.

Lyft was founded in June 2012 by Logan Green and John Zimmer to improve people’s lives with the world’s best transportation. Lyft is the fastest growing rideshare company in the U.S. and is available to 95 percent of the US population as well as in Ontario, Canada. Lyft is preferred by drivers and passengers for its reliable and friendly experience, and its commitment to effecting positive change for the future of our cities, as the first rideshare company to offset carbon emissions from all rides globally.

Autocare Haven is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex which provides free vehicle repairs for folks in north Texas who have fallen on hard times by connecting our designated recipients to an approved auto mechanic who can conduct the work.
